Captain R.T. Rhodes

Captain R.T. Rhodes, Division of Patrol Operations

This division consists of the uniformed patrol police officers. You probably notice this division more because all team members wear medium blue uniforms and drive white police cars with blue striping. The Wilkesboro Police Department utilizes four patrol teams; Adam, Baker, Charlie, and David. Under a twelve hour shift rotation there is at least one patrol team on duty at any given time. A patrol team consists of one lieutenant, one senior police officer and one police officer. The town of Wilkesboro is divided into three patrol zones and 11 areas of emphasis. The lieutenant will assign the patrol officers to the zones and areas throughout the patrol shift to meet call volume demands. Typically, a police officer will respond to multiple service calls during the shift which range from traffic crashes, larcenies, and domestic disturbances. The police officers will "self initiate" several actions throughout the shift such as vehicle traffic stops, property checks, and citizen visits. We invite you to listen along as our police officers go about their duties. Set your scanners to 155.010 to receive our radio traffic. You will notice our distinct call number system by hearing the team names transmitted by the officers. To understand the meaning of a Wilkesboro police radio call number, you must know the following. For 3 Adam 21 the 3 is our departmental designated code, the Adam is the team, and the number is the lieutenant commander. On average the Wilkesboro Police Department will respond to over 7,000 calls for service, per year, for an average of 19 calls per 24 hour shift.

Captain C.S. Garris

Captain C.S. Garris, Division of Support Operations

This division is equally important as patrol operations. It is smaller in size as far as employees, however; it is more diversified in terms of responsibilities. Within the divisions are sections which hold specific responsibilities; criminal investigations, evidence control, crime scene response specialist, employment background investigations, traffic crash reconstruction, applicant recruiting, and SWAT. The section which you may hear from the most is criminal investigations. All of the reported investigations conducted by the police patrol officers are submitted to the criminal investigators for more in-depth attention. Our criminal investigators are proud to maintain a near 50% clearance rate. We try hard to keep crime from taking place in Wilkesboro, however; we also try very hard to solve it when it does occur. Another interesting fact about this division is that one team member may hold positions in more than one section such as criminal investigations and SWAT or applicant background investigation and evidence control. The team members of the Division of Support Services hold specialized training in every level of discipline. Support Operations occupies the second level of the Wilkesboro Police Law Enforcement Operations Center.
