The department utilizes Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptors with the latest emergency equipment. On April 20, 2008 the Wilkesboro Police Department took possession of their new 2008 Chevrolet Impala Police Cars. The Wilkesboro Police Department has not utilized Chevrolets since the early 1980s. Fords were purchased for the fleet since then. The new Impalas are about one foot shorter than the Ford Crown Victoria; however there is plenty of room for the officers and their equipment. The Chief also down sized the engines from an eight cylinder to a six cylinder in an attempt to cut fuel cost. The Chevrolet Impala still has enough power to be used for law enforcement purposes. The four new cars will be assigned to the four Patrol Division Sergeant Commanders. All patrol units have mobile data terminals for quick information retrieval and most have traffic radars.

In August 2002, the police department purchased an International bus from the school system and converted it to a mobile command unit for the department. It is equipped with an awning on both sides, an RV air conditioning system, a generator system, emergency lights and siren. The inside was stripped, modified and equipped with a work station, laptop computer, mobile radio communications, cell phones, lighting and other emergency needs for the department. Its purpose will serve as a command unit during major events, traffic enforcement checks and emergency situations as needed. It may also be used in conducting mobile KIDS Identification Programs. The command unit and its equipment was purchased through donations from business and private individuals.
